The Dangers of Losing Fat the Wrong Way

Surgery definitely is a drastic step but obesity too, should be avoided. The gastric bypass surgery reduces the small intestine to one third of its original size so that one can eat less.

The Harmful Effects

The operation fails in 15% cases.

The patients start eating a lot of snacks. They eat a lot of sugary stuff that in turn leads to dumping syndrome in which the body feels dizzy, one complains of flushing, nauseating and excessive sweating.

Diet Drinks and Preservatives

All the cola companies ask you to buy their 0 calorie drinks and people buy them think that they are not consuming calories so what’s the harm in it? The harm is the ingredients of these fluids help the body acquire more fat, that is, you start gaining fat from other foods because your body becomes more receptive to it. The same goes for preservatives in foods.

What To Avoid?
Any form of carbohydrates is to be avoided. Therefore, say no to breads, pasta and potatoes.

What To Include?

Fresh vegetables and fruits are always on the list.

Save The Kids

It becomes very important to save the kids before they are headed the wrong way. Actually, choosing good food is a habit which can be inculcated in kids from a very young age. Children follow their parents, so, if they find their parents following a certain kind of diet they do the same. Remember there is another good side to it. Trying to be an example would mean you are going to stay in shape also.

Age-Old Skeletons Found in Underwater Caves of America

Scientists have found a female skeleton, presumed to be that of Eve of Naharon, which is considered to be almost 13600 years old. Experts opine that the skeleton discovered along with 3 others in the underwater caves off the Caribbean coast and Yucatan peninsula could prove to be an important clue to the American populace.

A team of scientists led by Arturo Gonzalez have been involved in the excavations around the town of Tulum since the past four years now. Gonzalez opines that they were still not too sure whether these people came from the continent, jungle or the Atlantic.

Contrary to previous studies, this one, as observed from the skulls of the skeletons, revealed that these people may not have been from a North Asian decent. The scientists believe that the shape of the skulls of the skeletons seem more like that of South Asian people than North Asian.

As per radiocarbon dating, the 3 skeletons seem to have existed as far as 11000 to 14000 years back. These results however cannot be accepted as the Gospel truth of the events and situations that may have happened or existed.

An archaeologist named David Anderson from the University of Tennessee claims that the minerals contained in sea water can actually alter the carbon content of the bones thereby resulting in inaccurate radiocarbon ratings.

The skeletons have been picked up from 50 feet deep caves off the town of Tulum. It is believed that during the time of Eve, one of the skeletons for which the age is determined, the sea levels were 200 feet lower. The Yucatan peninsula on the other hand is believed to have been a wide and dry prairie.

Experts suggest that due to frequent melting of ice, around 8000-9000 years ago, at the ice-caped Polar regions, sea levels rose considerably. This laid ground for a number of skeletons which luckily didn’t get washed away so easily by the ocean currents because of the presence of stalactites and stalagmites.

Interestingly, Gonzalez also found the skeletons of huge animals like elephants, moth and other kinds of fauna in the caves off the town of Tulum. Scientists are looking for more evidences in order to confirm the decent and origin of these skeletons.

Human Shoes in Use 40,000 Years Ago

Humans wore shoes almost 10,000 years earlier then what was previously thought of according to a study conducted at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

The evidence has been gathered from a human fossil that is 40,000-year-old having delicate toe bones, which indicates habitual shoe-wearing, according to experts.

An earlier study conducted on anatomical changes in toe bone structure dated the shoes as being used about 30,000 years ago. Now this delicate toed fossil suggests that some humans were using protective footwear 10,000 years further back. This was at a time when both Neanderthals and modern humans occupied parts of Asia and Europe.

Study author Erik Trinkaus, paleoanthropologist, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri said that due to scarcity of toe bone fossils makes it hard to determine the exact period when habitual shoe-wearing had become widespread. He claims, however, that even Neanderthals may have been using sandals.

Earlier humans, which includes Neanderthals indicates occasional use of shoes. Regular shoe may have become common by 40,000 years ago. The study by Trinkaus as well as Chinese co-author Hong Shang appears in the July issue of the Journal of Archaeological Science.

Prehistoric Men Drank Milk Much Earlier

The prehistoric men consumed milk about 8,500 years ago-almost 2,00 years earlier than thought of. This was revealed in the discovery of the earliest known milk containers.

The findings indicate that the usage of animal milk was initially developed in northwest Turkey by the cow herds residing there. The initial milk users did not consume milk per se, but ate cheese, butter and yogurt.

Richard Evershed, professor of biogeochemistry, University of Bristol, United Kingdom and his team analyzed over 2,200 ceramic vessels taken from  late Stone Age sites all over Turkey, Middle East and southeastern Europe.

Milk fats as against meat fats showed up quite clearly on the unglazed pots, which dated back to around 6500 B.C. taken from the Sea of Marmara region. Ancient bones of animals indicated that the use of dairy livestock were that of cattle, rather than sheep or goats.

These findings will be highlighted in the journal Nature (August 2008 issue).

Northwest Turkey provided the suitable environment for cattle rearing due greener grazing and “higher rainfall”. Pots became a convenient medium of the processing of milk into butter, cheese and yogurt.

Arab Genes in Danish Genes

Arabian genes found in an Ancient Dane indicate that Scandinavians living 2,000 years ago were diverse genetically. This was observed in a DNA study.

The findings were published in the November (2008) issue of the American Journal of Physical Anthropology, which happens to be a part of a wider study meant to show that Denmark’s  ancient population was quite diverse genetically as compared to present day.

Researchers hold the view that that the Iron Age cold have been a soldier serving on the northern frontier of the Roman Empire. He could have been a descendent of female women slaves who were brought in from Middle East. The Roman Empire extended up to the Middle East. Roman legions were located as far as north extending to the River Elbe in northern Germany.

The study studied 18 bodies that were well- preserved located in two burial sites dating from 0 to A.D.400 in eastern Denmark. These burial sites were excavated originally about 20 years ago.

Mitochondrial DNA provides the genetic details of the maternal ancestry of the individual. The information sought by the study was taken from the teeth. The study was led by Linea Melchoir of the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Cophenhagen.

One of the skeleton had a DNA signature known as haplogroup, which is closely linked to the Arabian Peninsula. Researcher Melchoir claims that the haplogroup was found among certain Bedouin tribes. It was also found in certain parts of Southern Europe. The skeleton is from Bogebjerggard, which is a  site belonging to the Iron Age. The bodies were perhaps that of poor farmers.

The other burial site at Skovgraade had bodies, which were of genetic signature, which was common to modern Scandinavians, the study stated. They were the Nordic types and had lower diversity. This group comprised of women mainly of women. They  could be identified by their fine rings, ornate hairpins and rings. It is quite evident that they were dressed up with attractive jewelry before burial. The Skovgraade burial represented the elite of the society.

Are Oxygen Bars Healthy or Just Hype?

You may be cheated at the name of oxygen bars as you are offered bayberry, peppermint, cranberry, wintergreen and breathe mints. Actually all of these things are consisting of just the oxygen flavors not the real oxygen. These oxygen bars were introduced in USA in late 90s. Since then it has become a favorite trend of the US population.

Presently, the situation is so severe that most of the customers are coming to these oxygen bars expecting that there they can have their deserving share of oxygen through the plastic tube that is duly inserted into their nostrils. Most of the customers opt for the flavored oxygen.

Do These Oxygen Bars Really Help?

As the fans of the oxygen bars state that these bars have some benefits such as reducing stress, increasing energies, lessening the effects of hangovers, sinus problems and headaches. It also helps in relaxing the body.

Factually, it doesn’t have any proven health benefits as far as research studies are concerned. According to experts, we can live with the 21% oxygen that is present in the atmosphere. It is suggested by the American Lung Association, there are no apparent health benefits of inhaling oxygen at oxygen bars.

Even it can be harmful for some patients who are suffering from diseases like heart disease, congestive heart failure, asthma. They need to have medicated oxygen regulated in their body carefully. In case they inhale oxygen excessively then it can be harmful for them.
